Here we go again…

One week and two days before D-Day…the day we test our minivan packing skills and pack a gagillion bars of soap, tons of sugar scrubs, mounds of shea butter and piles and piles of bath bombinos and schlepp it all to Denver for the Colorado Country Christmas Show. It just doesn’t seem right that we are selling stuff for Christmas already, but nevermind the annoying pace at which time flies. We are in soapmaking hyperdrive and have too many things to do to ruminate! We have never done this show before and have no idea what to expect. A mad dash for sugar scrubs? Thousands of happy customers throwing wads of cash our way? Or the one old hippy who wants patchouli soap and leaves our booth emptyhanded (we just don’t do patchouli).  Well, we have seen that one hippy dude at just about every show we’ve done so we know how to handle him….”Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I’m not sure how many batches of soap have been completed at this point but if my dining table is any indication, there is no more unsaponified olive, coconut, or palm oils in the universe. I think we’ve used an olive groves-worth of oils and about 10 pounds of baking soda for the bombinos, and enough ground oatmeal to feed five football teams.   Soap dude Wes was bummed out the other morning when he realized I had sacrificed all of our oatmeal for soap. The man just can’t face a morning without his bowl of oatmeal but I told him to just man-up and deal with it….we are making soap, dude! Soap!  (He better watch his supply of Guinness, too…we are working on a “Beer Belly” soap and just might need to borrow a few cold ones!) Plus, he’s got nothing to complain about, he’s seen my new Popeye arm….My right arm is so strong from all this soapmaking that I’m considering becoming a professional arm-wrestler.  Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Even with the crazy frenzied pace we have been working lately, I have to say that it has been fun. Well, some of it has. :) It is rather satisfying to see colorful soaps  piled up in a happy jumble on my dining table.  My kids are fascinated with them and are genuinely interested in what I’m working on, so that is pretty cool. Tiff and I manage to laugh a lot at all the commotion, the messes in the kitchens, the ever-growing to-do lists, and our dwindling bank account.  If you can’t have fun, what is the point, right?

Y’all made how much soap?

  1. […] full, hectic, frantic, stay up late into the night, swing. Christmas shows are almost upon us, and my partner Ashley and I are busier than Santa’s elves. My record is 200 bars of soap in a week, not to mention all the scrubs, whipped shea, and bath […]

  2. The soaps look amazing!
