Looking for something fun and easy to do with your kids this February? On February 13th though February 16th the annual Great Backyard Bird Count will be held across the country. This event has bird experts and bird watchers alike helping to track bird populations. Anyone can get involved in this and can actually help scientists get an idea of how bird populations are thriving.

All you (and or your little budding scientists) have to do is take a few minutes per day and count the numbers and types of birds that you see during that time. You can track the birds that visit your backyard or even go to a favorite spot like a park and take the count there. Go to this website:

and read more about this fun event. There is an online tally sheet for you to fill out each day. You can even go online and see the birdcount report for your area. For those of you obsessed with photography as Tiff and I are, you can snap photos of the birds and upload them to the website, too.

So, go forth and count! And know that you are doing something great for our feathered friends and the community.

I caught my daughter in the act of blatant soap thievery today after her bath. She grabbed a bar of Night, Night, Baby! soap that I left on a table in my bedroom. Earlier in the day I was trying to take a photo of the soap as part of something Tiff and I are working on and left it there. (Left it there like a novice! All parents know if you don’t want your kids to take it, break it, or stick it up their nose you should put it away!) When she saw that she’d been caught her words were, “this is some good smellin’ soap!” Ah, yes, RoRo…flattery does get you everywhere. Especially to this soapmaker!

That reminds me, I now need to update Tiff that we are another Night, Night Baby soap down.

Hello Everyone!
Just a little note from us SoapChix on this very exciting day. We hope everyone is finding a way to celebrate and enjoy this momentous occasion. My daughter, who is so happy to be the same age as one of the Obama girls, participated in a Obama Pajama party at her elementary school today in honor of the big event. That’s one way to celebrate! We hope that you find your own way, too.

Happy Inauguration! And good luck, President Obama!

I, like most of you, am in the midst of a half-crazed holiday shopping frenzy. I was birthday-Christmas-Hanukkah shopping this past weekend when I ran across this cute Santa in the photo. I couldn ‘t decide if he was bored and hoping for some cute wild children to hop in the rocking chair with him and share their wish lists, or if he was hiding from the same throng of shoppers that I managed to get away from. At any rate, let it serve as a reminder to all of us that we need a break from all this Holiday stuff from time to time.

Our dear sweet friends Terri and Serena at The Farm Chicks have a great blog where you can read about all sorts of fun projects, great recipes, vintage collectibles, etc. They recently posted about National Tie One On day (coming up on November 26th) which is a day celebrating aprons. Tiff and I are all about cute vintage aprons and have found them to be super useful to wear at shows. The apron pockets make great places to stash calculators, sales books, chocolate, beer bottles….well….so, um.

So here’s to the nostalgia and happy practicality that aprons represent. Go forth, put on a cute apron and muster up all the charm and attitude that you can! (As my 3 year old did in this photo….why she has it up near her armpits is anybody’s guess!).

Hello! Hello!
Just a quick post today about how fabulous the combination of Lemon and yummy spearmint is. Essentially (pun intended) it is truly invigorating and uplifting. I am not a morning person so this is my go-to scent when I am trying to perk myself up. I use the sugar scrub in this scent and it…is….heaven. It is also really great to use the Lemon Spearmint bombinos, shown in the photo, as a foot soak for weary feet. Oh so relaxing!

I bring this up now folks because I know how crazed everyone’s schedules are this time of year. I’m in the middle of planning two birthday parties, Thanksgiving, two family trips, helping with a school Fun Fair, a silent auction, taking photos for a friend, did I mention Christmas shopping?……darn this list! I really want to enjoy this time of year and not just “get through it.” So I’m going to remember to pamper myself during this crazy time and will be raiding our own supplies of Lemon Spearmint bombinos….and sugar scrub….and soap…you get the picture.
